Splits and payees

Last updated

A split gives someone a share of a release's royalties, or of one track's. Your organization keeps whatever is left after the splits.

Adding a split

Owners and admins can add splits.

  1. Open the release and go to the Splits tab.
  2. Under Add a split, choose what it Applies to: the whole release, or one track.
  3. Pick an existing payee, or choose Someone new and enter their Name and Email.
  4. Optionally pick a Role, such as Featured artist, Producer or Co-writer.
  5. Enter the Share (%).
  6. Click Send invitation (or Add split for an existing payee).

Splits on a release, or on a track, can't add up to more than 100%. If you go over, Composer tells you how much is still available.

What the payee receives

New payees get an email with a Review and accept button. The link expires in 30 days. If it expires, click Resend invitation on the split.

The payee signs in with the invited email address, or creates an account from the link. Then they click Accept split or Decline. You're notified either way.

Split statuses

  • Invited: waiting for the payee to answer.
  • Active: accepted. The payee shares in the release.
  • Declined: the payee turned it down.
  • Ended: you ended it.

Changing or ending a split

To change a share, end the split and add a new one.

  • End split (on an active split): past statements keep it, and future periods don't.
  • Remove (on a split that isn't active yet): deletes it.

What payees can see

A payee joins your organization with the Payee role. They see only:

  • The releases they hold a split on.
  • Their own statements and payouts.
  • Their own payout setup.

They can't see your other releases, your catalog or your organization's money. You can't add payees from the Members page; they join only through a split.
