Creating a release in Composer

Last updated

Start a draft

Go to Releases and start a new release. The wizard has four steps:

  1. Type: Single, EP, Album, Compilation, Other or Music video. You can switch between the audio types later. A music video can't be switched to an audio type, or the other way round.
  2. Title: the title exactly as it should appear in stores.
  3. Artists: the primary artists. You add featured artists and other credits on each track.
  4. Date & label: the release date (you can set it later). The label comes from your artists' defaults. Our team manages labels, so contact us to change one.

Click Create draft. The release opens on the Tracks tab.

Fill it in

  • Tracks: drop your master files. Each file becomes a track. Click a track to add its title, version, credits and other details. To reuse a recording you already have, click Add existing recordings.
  • Release: genre, language, explicit content, release date, © and ℗ lines, and cover art. Rarely used fields sit under More options.
  • Stores: pick stores and territories.

Click Save details after changing the Release tab.

Review and submit

Open the Review & submit tab. Checks lists anything to fix. Errors block submission. Warnings are shown to our team. Click an item to go to it.

If your plan has a release fee, pay it here first.

Click Submit for review. Only owners and admins can submit.

What happens in review

Our team checks every release before it goes to stores, usually within two business days. You get an email either way.

  • Approved: the release goes out to your stores.
  • Changes requested: the Review tab shows what to change. Fix it, then click Resubmit.
  • Rejected: the Review tab shows why. Contact us if you have questions.

While it's In review, you can click Withdraw from review to make changes.
