Updating a release that's already in stores
Last updated
Once a release is Scheduled or Live, you change it through an update. Your changes go to stores only after our team reviews them.
Starting an update
Open the release. The banner at the top says it's in sync with stores. Click Update metadata.
You can now edit the release. The banner shows that an update is open.
What you can change
- Titles, versions and other details
- Artist credits and other credits
- Cover art
- Stores and territories
- Explicit content and AI disclosures
- Adding a Dolby Atmos mix
What you can't change
Stores would treat these as a new product, so create a new release instead:
- The release type
- The UPC
- The track list or track order
- Master audio
- ISRCs
- Removing a Dolby Atmos mix
- The release date or pre-order date, once the release is live
Some changes can reset a track's history in stores, such as titles, artist names and the explicit setting. Composer marks these with "resets history". Play counts and playlist placements may not carry over.
Submitting the update
- Open the Review update tab.
- Check the list under Changes since the last delivery. It shows what's in stores now next to your change.
- Fix any errors.
- Click Submit update.
Only owners and admins can submit an update.
Review and delivery
Our team reviews the update. While it's in review, you can click Withdraw to keep editing.
- Changes requested: see the Activity tab for what to change.
- Approved: we send it to stores. Most stores show changes within a few days.
- Not accepted: the release goes back to what stores have.
Each step shows on the Activity tab.
Cancelling an update
Click Discard. The release goes back to what stores have. If the update is in review, withdraw it first.
Taking a release down
To remove a release from stores, click Request takedown at the top of the release. Tell us why. Removal usually takes a few days. You can't request a takedown while an update is open.
